A certain breed of living-room bar has taken root in Weserstrasse and cutesy examples have flowered all over Reuterkiez (the hip neighbourhood centred around Reuterstrasse) as people realized how cheap it was to furnish a small shop front and start selling beer. Set apart from the crowd in Lenaustrasse, Geist im Glas has quickly developed a loyal following, its setting and drinks list far more fully formed than its spartan neighbours. The space is built up with wooden platforms and attention to detail, such as the Victorian curios inlaid into the bar or the rather esoteric toilets. They specialise in infused alcohols, shots of which are poured out of a giant bottle at the bar or mixed into their house cocktails, like the Geist Russian, a rich blend of vodka infused with vanilla and cinnamon, Kahlua and cream.
