Casa Calvet allows the time-strapped visitor to sample some excellent cooking and appreciate the master of modernisme at the same time. One of Gaudí's more understated buildings from the outside, Casa Calvet has an interior full of glorious detail in the carpentry, stained glass and tiles. The food is up to par, with surprising combinations almost always hitting the mark: sole with pistachio sauce and sautéed aubergine; scallops with black olive tapenade and wild mushroom croquettes; and roast beef with apple sauce and truffled potatoes. The desserts are superb – try the anis-flavoured orange cream with fresh cheese.
