Time Out says

The work of modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch the building was commissioned by the Terrades sisters who wanted to join together three houses they owned on C/Bruc, C/Rosselló and Av Diagonal. Puig i Cadafalch came up with a medieval-looking building with six towers topped by conical needles which are its most characteristic elements and how it got the nickname 'les punxes' ('the thorns').
