The Dragon Boat Festival or – Duan Wu Jie as it’s known in Mandarin – is soon approaching on June 10. Typically observed on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, the festival has origins in China as a commemoration of the Zhou dynasty poet Qu Yuan. While it isn’t a public holiday in Singapore, the occasion is still widely celebrated across homes, with families gathering to feast on delicious, steaming hot sticky rice dumplings or bak zhang. This year, we round up the best places to order rice dumplings. From bak zhang made with traditional recipes, to innovative, modern recreations, these dumplings are great for gifting or enjoying with your loved ones.
