OK, Girona is not New York or Berlin, but we have a ton of local places to party the night away. From the latest hits to tracks of the 90s, everyone can find a spot to dance like there's no tomorrow!

Created in Harry's Bar in Venice in 1948, the Bellini is a cocktail that attracted various famous fans, such as Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway. If you're in the mood for one, or indeed any kind of drink, you should head to the Girona bar that pays homage to its name, Porta Bellini. A popular local night spot, you'll find a wide range of gin and tonics, cocktails and other alcoholic options. Add in a great dose of hits from the '70s to the '90s for the nostalgics among us, a shot of more up-to-date songs, then shake well. You're bound to enjoy a perfect mix, whose cherry on the top (or olive in the glass) is an attractive urban terrace where you can enjoy an al fresco moment. Get all dolled up and make the most of Girona by night.

Set a course for rumba and head straight to the Lola Café. This pub, with its warm, barroque decoration, is located at the heart of the Barri Vell and is a classic of Girona nightlife. Enjoy a drink or two there (cocktails, wine and other mixed drinks), and soak up the unique atmosphere. On various nights a week, the 'lolailo' style takes over the café, transforming it in to the cornerstone of Catalan rumba in Girona with live performances. Partying, fun and good vibes are the order of the day in this place, which for a decade now has also organised concerts with covers of pop hits. Drink in hand, let yourself go to the rhythm of the 'ventilador', and don't worry about what tomorrow might bring. Keep on dancing!

Prepare your hashtags #cocktails, #music, #party and #OneGirona. You'll need them to describe your time at this Girona venue, one of the city's most popular and crowded at the weekend. Its long menu of gin and tonics includes over 30 options for you to try, from the typical gin-tonic-lemon combo to other elaborate mixes that sound like the descriptions of gardens. There are other cocktails that may well surprise you, such as the Xoco-Rom (chocolate liqueur, rum, condensed milk and chocolate biscuit), which is a real explosion of sweetness. And if you're looking for something different to do on Thursday evening, an excellent option is their 'afterwork' session, where you can enjoy good food, good drinks and good vibes.

Are you known by friends and family as 'alternative'? Have you worn the dark-rimmed glasses, the lumberjack shirts, the cropped skinny jeans, the Nordic sweater, the beard and the quiff? Do you like indie rock, soul and pop? Then at the Yeah! Indie Club you'll feel right at home. In this venue, which opened in 2014 in the centre of Girona, there's absolutely nothing mainstream, whether the resident DJs (DJ Rockit, Elektrik and DJ Arkade) are behind the decks, the music is in the hands of special guests (such as Legoteque, Viktor Olle, Raio Beat and Soul Glo', to name but a few) or there's a band performing live. Among those who've already played there are Cala Vento, Steve Smith, Marion Harper, The Crab Apples and Coriolà. It's a must for all indie kids.

At night everyone indulges in a little play acting; a look this way, a sexy move that way. And in Girona you can get into your part and perform it in a former theatre, namely Nou Platea, one of the most iconic discos in the city, which was inaugurated in 1992. The large stage curtain presides over the dance floor, which every Thursday fills up with university students, while on Friday you can hear the best electronic music, reggae and hip hop. And if you want to practise your lines, take a seat on one of the sofas with a cocktail in hand prepared by the barman to the rhythm of deep house.

Situated just opposite the Post Office (Correus), this bar-cocktail bar has two different spaces, a highlight of which is the heated garden terrace, that stays open throughout the year. On Thursdays, a popular going-out night for university students, they put on special events to get the evening really going. While on Fridays and Saturdays, you can revel in drinks and great music that will make you feel like you've really hit the jackpot.

Celtic Bar

Sometimes you start off just quietly enjoying a beer but end up doing all the moves to 'YMCA'. You know what we're talking about, right? Well, in this Girona tavern it's not unusual to find exactly that kind of thing happening. Its selection of imported beers and four varieties of mojitos served in jam jars (they're made to order using natural fruits and spices) will give you the necessary energy for a really great night out. You can listen and dance to hits from the '80s and '90s, pachanga, rumba and songs from Catalan groups such as La Pegatina and Els Catarres. Every Tuesday they host monologues by visiting artists, and once a month stage acoustic concerts from Catalan singer-songwriters.
